Welcome to Learning from YouTube, a digital compendium of nearly 200 assorted and sundry "texteos" (text+video) about YouTube—blogs, essays, videos, and slogans—referring, at least initially, to a college course of the same name taught at Pitzer College, on and about the site, in Fall 2007 and 2008.

This publication pushes against the chaotic and undisciplined architecture of YouTube (while quoting its design) by organizing its ideas and images through four more transparent and reasoned routes: tours, tags, and triage organize the texteos!

This is text specific to the Enculturation slice. It can be managed in the database's "text" table.

10 tours, holding approximately 15 texteos each, and taking about 30-60 mins to view, lead you on a structured, linear argument written in text and/or video about the varied ways and means of YouTube. Go off track whenever you wish by following 20 tags, producing a more associative, but still rational (and trackable) movement across the content. Finally, in the face of YouTube's maddening, inscrutable flow, we've provided a visible map of our site's entire structure as well as an effective search tool.

As is true for YouTube, there are many voices collected here. Unlike YouTube, however, one expert voice dominates, authoring a majority of the texteos and in turn organizing them into arguments all the while in careful conversation with my students, other YouTube scholars, and day to day YouTubers.
